Myron is used in the treatment of infections of the abdomen, such as appendicitis and peritonitis, bacterial meningitis (infection of the lining of the brain), and skin infections.
Myron may also be used for purposes other than those listed here.
Pharmacology: Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis.
Indication: Single-agent treatment of complicated skin and skin structure infections, complicated intra-abdominal infections (ie, appendicitis, peritonitis), and bacterial meningitis when caused by susceptible microorganisms.
Empiric therapy in febrile neutropenic patients; community-acquired pneumonia (if Pseudomonas is a concern); hospital-acquired pneumonia (including ventilator-associated pneumonia and health care- associated pneumonia).
Myron is a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic. It is active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Myron exerts its action by penetrating bacterial cells readily and interfering with the synthesis of vital cell wall components, which leads to cell death.
